Under its seventh operational phase (GEF 7), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) has approved the ‘Impact Programme for the Integrated Management of Forest Landscapes in the Congo- Cameroon Component’.
OBJECTIVES:
To strengthen the integrated management of Cameroon's globally important forest landscapes in the Congo Basin to guarantee its biological integrity and increase economic opportunities and livelihoods for forest-dependent populations.
IMPLEMENTATION LANDSCAPES
The project is implemented through the Cameroon segments of three transboundary landscapes: (i) the Campo Ma'an-Rio Campo landscape (769,446 ha), particularly around the Campo Ma'an National Park; (ii) the Tri-National Dja-Odzala-Minkebe (TRIDOM) landscape (4,949,174 ha), and (iii) the Tri-National de la Sangha (TNS) landscape (1,490,552 ha), particularly in and around the Lobéké National Park.
EXPECTED RESULTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
952,573 hectares of terrestrial protected areas under more effective management
3,076,093 hectares of landscapes with improved practices
3.3 t/ha/year or 26.2 million tons CO2 eq over a 20-year period of greenhouse gas emissions mitigated
18,471 direct beneficiaries (8,866 women and9,605 men)
